DEPARTMENT OF MINING AND NUCLEAR ENGINEERING Professor/Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering
Applications are invited from highly qualified individuals to fill a senior faculty position as Professor or Associate Professor with credentials to be appointed as Professor in Nuclear Engineering, Department of Mining and Nuclear Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR). Qualified candidates will also be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. The Nuclear Engineering Program is one of the nation’s highly ranked programs in education and research. The program occupies a centerpiece of UMR’s strategic energy thrust area, and it is one of the fastest growing undergraduate engineering programs at this university. UMR is expanding its Nuclear Engineering program to meet this growing undergraduate demand with expanded research capacity. This senior faculty member is expected to be a leader of the Nuclear Engineering Program with the potential to become Department chair effective July 2010. The Department has over 300 undergraduate and graduate students in both the Mining and Nuclear Engineering disciplines. The Nuclear Engineering program houses a 200 KW Nuclear Reactor and several research and teaching laboratories in thermal hydraulics, radiation measurements, mass spectroscopy and efforts are underway to develop a space nuclear laboratory. The University of Missouri-Rolla, part of the land-grant University of the State of Missouri, is located in South Central Missouri in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. There are approximately 6,000 students on the Rolla campus, about 85% of whom are science and engineering majors. The successful candidate will have an earned doctoral degree in nuclear/radiological engineering, a history of research leadership, and a track record of funding and peer-reviewed publications. Previous experience in program/department administration and leadership in professional and technical societies will be great assets in the selection process. Responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising, strong research undertaking and leadership. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English. Rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2007 and continue until the position is filled.
